Postgraduate students with an interest in German theology are invited to apply.
Applicants should
- have a first degree in theology, divinity, religion or related fields
- be proficient in English
- have some basic knowledge of German
Candidates should not hesitate to contact the organizers if in doubt as to meeting the requirements.
The total costs are EUR 1,280.– and include:
- teaching equivalent of 6 certifiable ECTS
- accommodation in host families or student housing (meals are typically not provided and not included)
- excursions (including entrance fees)
- JGU certificate after successful completion
A limited number of grants will be available to help covering the costs.
Deadline for applications for the 2026 course: 15th April 2026 (deadlines for grant applications vary).
Please note: The deadline for the 2026 course has now passed and the course is fully booked. Please send us a message, if you have not registered yet, but are still interested in the 2026 course so that we can contact you in case of any last minute cancellations. The 2027 course is scheduled to take place from the 28th of June to the 16th of July.
1. Registration is obligatory for participation and also necessary in order to be considered for grants. However, you may cancel your registration until the 15th of April 2026 without having to give any reasons and without any further costs.
Please register through the ZWW website (click here). ZWW uses a shopping cart system for which cookies need to be enabled to work. You will be asked for your contact details and also to agree to the university‘s privacy policy which adheres to the privacy regulations of the Federal Government of Germany (English translation: Privacy Policy).

2. Please wait for an e-mail from Professor Volp who is going to contact you with some further information or in case it turns out we need additional information. (For example about the possibility of grants for you. He may also ask you for some more information in order to be able to decide on your application, but also to help with the preparation of the courses, the accommodation etc.). Please note: The deadline for grant applications for the 2026 course will be the 31st of December 2025.
3. You will then receive a letter of confirmation of your acceptance for the course via e-mail. This letter has been helpful for many in order to apply for support from their home institutions or other funding bodies.
4. Please wait for your invoice from ZWW (the payment choices given on the ZWW site are irrelevant in this case, you will always receive an invoice for this course). If you have successfully applied for a grant, your invoice is going to reflect this by charging you an amount reduced by the grant.
